After a not so successful stint as an actor despite films like Kalyug, Go Goa Gone, Lootcase, the Golmaal series, and 99, Kunal Kemmu turned a director with Madgaon Express. The actor-director pitched the film to Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s as a ‘poor man’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, and the film has had a decent run at the box office. The film starred Divyendu Sharma, Pratik Gandhi, Avinash Tiwary, and Nora Fatehi, and earned Rs 13.5 crore in the first week.
The film entered the second weekend on a good note where it minted Rs 3.65 crore, but Monday onwards, the film has been dropping on an everyday basis. On Monday, it collected Rs 60 lakhs, on Tuesday it earned Rs 50 lakhs, and Rs 49 lakhs on Wednesday, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The total collection of the film today stands at Rs 18.74 crore and going by the trend, the film will cross the Rs 20 crore mark by the end of the weekend.
The business of Madgaon Express has been impacted by the release of Crew starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon.The film has minted Rs 40 crore in 6th days at the box office.
