The Wine Cellar at Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo stands as a timeless testament to the Principality’s history, spanning over 150 years. In honor of its sesquicentennial anniversary, the Wine Cellar will host an array of exclusive dinners and masterclasses, collaborating with esteemed wine and champagne estates from across France. Simultaneously, the master sommeliers of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer have curated a selection of rare vintages, to be savored by the glass for the first time, along with the launch of a limited series, “Grande Champagne Premier Cru de Cognac, Les Caves Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo,” commemorating the milestone.

Constructed beneath the palace in January 1874 at the behest of Marie Blanc, wife of François Blanc, the founder of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, the Cellars at Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo span over 1,500 m². Housing more than 350,000 bottles across 1.5 kilometers, it is the world’s largest hotel cellar, boasting around 6,000 different labels.

From April to October 2024, patrons dining at the restaurants of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer Resort will have the opportunity to indulge in a selection of rare and renowned French wines by the glass. Ranging from Bordeaux to Burgundy, and from the Rhône to the Loire Valleys, each varietal has been meticulously chosen by the group’s sommeliers to complement the existing wine list and highlight the legacy of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo Cellars. Furthermore, the Wine Cellars are reviving their tradition of craftsmanship to produce the “Grande Champagne Premier Cru de Cognac,” an exquisitely crafted XO Extra Old quality Champagne cognac.

This exceptional vintage will be available from April 2024 at the bars of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer Resort, within the Hôtel de Paris Cellars, and at the Casino de Monte-Carlo boutique.

For Stéphane Valeri, Chairman and CEO of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer: “The 150 years of the Cellars in Hôtel de Paris celebrate the fabulous inheritance from Marie Blanc, as well as the passion and talent of our cellar-keepers and sommeliers who bring this heritage to fruition, whether in the heart of the Cellars, or in our thirty restaurants and bars today. For our group, this is a big, beautiful story about passing on and sharing. We are offering our clients this inheritance, to enjoy an unforgettable experience in our Cellars that are unique in the world.”

“This anniversary is a magnificent occasion to bring together our best wine enthusiast clients, guests at the Resort, as well as our teams around the values of wine: sharing, handing down, authenticity”, added Patrice Franck, Executive Chef Sommelier of the group.

As part of the commemoration of our anniversary, a series of exclusive dinners will be hosted in the cellars, featuring:

  • April 5, 2024: A distinguished Grands Crus Bordeaux dinner, presented in collaboration with esteemed estates such as Château Cheval Blanc, Château d’Yquem, Château Haut-Brion, and Château Margaux. Renowned Chef Yannick Alleno will curate this culinary experience, which will commence with a tasting session followed by a conference on “climate change and its impact on the Fine Wines of Bordeaux.”
  • June 11, 2024: An exquisite Tenuta San Guido – Bolgheri dinner, also crafted by Chef Yannick Alleno. This event will feature a Master Class led by sommeliers and a private tasting hosted by Mrs. Priscilla Incisa Della Rocchetta from the prestigious Tuscan vineyard Tenuta San Guido renowned for producing the esteemed Sassicaia.
  • November 7, 2024: A splendid Moët Hennessy dinner, crafted by Chef Emmanuel Pilon from Louis XV – Alain Ducasse at Hôtel de Paris. This final dinner of the celebrations will commence with a tasting session and a conference on “climate change and its influence on Champagne,” concluding the festivities on a high note.

Additionally, in honor of our 150th anniversary, the Cellars are undergoing a two-phase renovation project. The first phase includes the creation of a new entrance, reception area, and tasting room, meticulously designed in collaboration with the esteemed Moinard firm. The second phase of renovations is scheduled to take place between November 2024 and March 2025.
